Big Bear Honey was born from a simple belief: good honey should come from good people, and those people deserve real support. We are a Michigan-based honey brand built around genuine relationships with the beekeepers who do the careful, important work of tending hives and protecting pollinators. We do not keep bees ourselves, but we show up for the ones who do. Every product we sell is a direct reflection of that partnership and the care that goes into every harvest.
We source from beekeepers we trust, carry their honey under our name, and work hard to help them thrive. Protecting pollinators matters to us deeply, and supporting our beekeeping partners is one of the most meaningful ways we can do that. When you buy from Big Bear Honey, you are part of that chain of care, and that connection is something we take seriously every single day.
What We Make
Honey is at the heart of everything, but Big Bear Honey has grown into something broader. Our lineup includes classic honey, hot honey, creamed honey, specialty honey, bee pollen super honey, honey mustard, and snacks. We also carry a full skincare collection featuring nature balm, lip balm, and soap, plus apparel, beeswax candles, and honey dippers for the people who love everything that comes from the hive.
Every product is made with the same intention: to use real ingredients, keep it honest, and make something worth sharing. We are always developing new products and listening closely to what our customers and wholesale partners are asking for. When something new is ready, we make sure it is actually ready before it goes out the door.
Honey That Tastes Like Where It Comes From
Honey is not a commodity product when it is sourced thoughtfully, and flavor is one of the clearest ways to understand why. The flowers visited by bees during foraging have a direct impact on the taste, aroma, and character of the honey they produce. Honey harvested near blueberry farms or apple orchards, for example, often develops noticeably different flavor profiles than honey gathered from wildflower meadows or clover fields. That variation is not a flaw. It is the point.
At Big Bear Honey, we source with intention because we believe the origin of honey should be something worth talking about, not something hidden behind a generic label. Every variety in our lineup reflects the landscape and season it came from, and that connection to place is part of what makes real honey worth choosing over mass-produced alternatives. When you taste the difference, you will understand why sourcing matters.
Why Raw Honey Matters
Not all honey is created equal, and that distinction is worth understanding. Most commercial honey sold in grocery stores is heavily processed, heated at high temperatures, and filtered until it loses much of its natural character. This process extends shelf life and creates a uniform appearance, but it also strips away the enzymes, antioxidants, pollen, and trace nutrients that give raw honey its depth and nutritional value.
Raw honey is honey in its most natural state, minimally processed and never pasteurized. Research published by the National Institutes of Health highlights that raw honey retains bioactive compounds, including polyphenols and antioxidants, that are largely absent in processed varieties. When honey is treated gently and kept close to its natural form, it reflects the flowers, seasons, and landscapes where the bees foraged. That is the kind of honey we are proud to carry. Traceable, Audited, and Built to a Higher Standard
We believe consumers and retail buyers should be able to purchase honey with complete confidence, and we have built our systems to support that. Every batch of Big Bear Honey is 100 percent traceable back to its source. We document where our honey comes from and maintain records throughout the production process, so there is never a question about what is in the jar or where it originated.
To validate those systems against recognized industry standards, Big Bear Honey LLC completed an NSF Supplier Assurance Food Manufacturing Audit, earning a score of 92 and maintaining certification through May 2027. NSF International is one of the world's most recognized independent food safety and certification organizations, and its audits are widely used by retailers, distributors, and food manufacturers to evaluate supplier compliance with food safety, quality, traceability, GMP, HACCP, and FSMA requirements. Earning that result demonstrates that our operations meet the standards commercial partners expect, and it gives our retail and wholesale buyers a verified basis for confidence in every order they place.
Wholesale and Local Partnerships
Big Bear Honey is available for wholesale through our Faire storefront. If you own a boutique, specialty food shop, or retail space that values quality and story-driven products, we would love to talk. Our honey has a way of connecting with customers, and we are proud to partner with businesses that share our values and care about where their products come from. Reach out through our contact page to ask about wholesale pricing and availability.
Big Bear Honey News
A lot has happened in a short time, and we are proud of every bit of it. Here is what is going on at Big Bear Honey right now.
We Just Turned One
Big Bear Honey celebrates its first birthday on July 1st. One year in, we have grown our product line, built wholesale relationships, been featured at national trade events, and kept showing up for our beekeeping partners. We are grateful for every customer who found us in year one, and we are just getting started.
Selected to Represent Michigan Agriculture in New York City
Big Bear Honey was selected to represent the State of Michigan Agriculture at the Specialty Food Association's Fancy Food Show in New York City. Being chosen to represent Michigan on that stage is something we do not take lightly, and we showed up ready to share what Michigan honey is capable of.
Returning to the Grand Rapids Christkindl Markt
Big Bear Honey will return to the Grand Rapids Christkindl Market this holiday season. If you found us there last year, we will be back. If you missed it, this year is your chance to taste the difference in person.
